A few more shots of the little knit cap in baby alpaca.
Even though it’s nearly summer I still enjoy knitting with chunky wools. This one, Plymouth Yarn’s Baby Alpaca Hand Dye, isn’t the heaviest—it calls for a 10.5 needle. I knit loose, so I chose to use 10.
I set about making a couple of hats from one skein and as soon as I finished the first my daughter absconded with it. Summer weather didn’t stop her from running around today with this simple little moss stitch cap.
For a kids hat cast on 48 stitches in the round.
Rows 1-5: K1 P1 rib.
Row 6: P1 K1 around.
Row 7: K1 P1 around.
Rows 8-21: Repeat rows 6-7 to continue in a moss stitch.
Row 22: *(P1, K1) 3 times, K2Tog, place marker, repeat from * 5 times.
Row 23: K1, P1 around.
For remainder of hat continue in moss stitch decreasing before each marker every other row until you have 6 stitches left. Bring tail through stitches and tie of.
For a big girl hat just cast on 56, do 6 rows of rib instead of 5, begin decrease on row 25 instead of 21, and have 7 decrease points instead of 6.
This pagoda umbrella is on sale at Cost Plus, so I just couldn’t help myself.
Last weekend my daughter and I wanted to relax on the front lawn, but being overly protective about the harmful effects of sun I insisted to her we find shade. Our lawn has no shade, so we tried to make our own with a trio of crappy little rain umbrellas. It worked well enough until the wind started picking them up and taking them away, breaking one in the process.
Yesterday I splurged on something a little larger. I didn’t realize it does not come with a base, so I’ll have to go back for that. It didn’t hold us back today, though. We pitched it beside our outdoor chimney and put down a thin outdoor mat we also got at Cost Plus at the Grove.
Tonight at 8:34 pm the west coast was privy to a “supermoon”, being the closest it passes all year. Oddly enough, today seemed to be the convergence of many things — free comic day, cinco de mayo, supermoon day…
It’s always a party in California, people.
Fans of My Little Pony should be sure to stop by TAG (Toy Art Gallery) on Melrose tonight at 7pm for the My Little Pony exhibit that is kicking off. The best part is all proceeds go to a children’s hospital.
